"Truth is always revealed in the light": Kyrie Irving responds to COVID policy maker's video about preventing guard from playing for vaccine snub

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kyrie Irving refused to get vaccinated. Given that New York City had passed a vaccine mandate and Irving was playing on the Brooklyn Nets at the time, he was unable to play in home games throughout the 2021-22 season.

Now, in leaked footage, Dr. Jay Varma, the former architect of New York City's COVID-19 policies, can be seen discussing the situation, calling Irving an "a**" while discussing how his policy directly contributed to Irving missing time.

The footage went viral over the past week, as fans weighed in on the situation and Varma's excitement surrounding a Wall Street Journal article written about him.

In response, Kyrie Irving weighed in on the footage on both Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter. On X, he reposted the footage along with a caption that read:

"GOD is truly the greatest and the TRUTH is always revealed in the light. I am grateful I am not alone on this mission. “Rise up out of the ashes no matter what." Hélà"

On Instagram, the NBA star posted a screenshot of his post on X, along with a different caption that read:

"But when you look and see why your calling is necessary…."

"Don't tell me how the science works": a NYC COVID policy maker takes aim at Kyrie Irving in two undercover videos

Several videos of former NYC COVID-19 policymaker Dr. Jay Varma talking about avoiding COVID regulations have gone viral in the last week. Throughout the tapes, which appear to have been secretly taken without Varma's knowledge, he is seen acknowledging to violating the COVID-19 regulations he set.

In one video, Varma explained that he had to be sneaky about skirting mandates he put in place, justifying his behavior by claiming that the only way he could handle his responsibilities at work was to blow off steam sometimes.

He details an underground dance party beneath a bank where he and those he was with were using MDMA (street name: Molly/Ecstasy), describing the party as "not COVID-friendly."

In another clip, he talked about hosting a hotel party where up to 10 people were all in a room naked together while high on MDMA.

Varma discussed a Wall Street Journal article written about him, highlighting how his policies prevented Kyrie Irving from playing for the Nets.

In another, he takes direct aim at Irving, saying:

"I just think he's asinine. He's an ass. I am not in a position to tell him how to dribble better or how to shoot better … Don't tell me how the science works."

While Varma is no longer working for the city of New York, his admissions have resulted in widespread criticism and could open him up to a lawsuit from Kyrie Irving.
