"Tyrese Maxey or Paul George in a TikTok that'd be amazing" - 76ers' Jared McCain wants to enlist the help of star teammates for social media

Even before Jared McCain was drafted into the NBA, he was already a well-known name among basketball fans due to his TikTok presence. Now that he’s in the league, he’s eager to have stars join his TikTok videos, starting with teammates Tyrese Maxey and Paul George.

The Philadelphia 76ers rookie boasts over 3.6 million followers on TikTok, with his videos accumulating 158.3 million likes as of this writing.

In an interview with ClutchPoints, Jared McCain mentioned his goal of featuring his star teammates in TikTok videos, but noted that he would not pressure them into participating.

"If I could one day get Tyrese Maxey or Paul George in a TikTok, that'd be amazing. But I'm not gonna force it in their faces by any means," he said (per Clutchpoints). "Hopefully, I can get them in one after a big win or something."

Jared McCain, a sharpshooting guard, was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 16th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. During his single season at Duke, he earned a spot on the 2023-24 ACC All-Rookie Team and received an All-ACC Honorable Mention.

He played in five Summer League games, averaging 13.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 24.5 minutes per game.

However, he struggled with his shooting, hitting just 28.2% from the field and from three-point range.

Despite his early struggles, he said one of his priorities in the NBA is to have fun.

"I'm gonna show up and have fun," he said. "You can have fun off the court and still work hard and make it to the NBA. So I'm just trying to change that narrative that you have to be so serious at all times … I'm always gonna find a way to be myself."

Looking at the 76ers’ offseason moves aside from drafting Jared McCain

In addition to drafting Jared McCain, the Philadelphia 76ers have had a bustling offseason.

They acquired Paul George, the top free agent of the year, and secured a maximum extension for Tyrese Maxey. They also re-signed Kelly Oubre Jr.

Furthermore, they bolstered their roster with key role players including Kyle Lowry, Caleb Martin, Eric Gordon and Andre Drummond. They are also set to add Reggie Jackson, who recently had a contract buyout with the Charlotte Hornets.

These acquisitions have notably enhanced the team around reigning MVP Joel Embiid.

McCain is anticipated to serve as a reserve player, with the expected starting lineup for Philadelphia being Maxey, Oubre, George, Martin and Embiid.

While McCain could contribute as a scoring option off the bench, he faces stiff competition in the guard rotation from Maxey, Lowry and Jackson.
