"Use a better word than pegged" — NBA fans roast Team USA Select coaches after picking Jaime Jaquez Jr., Cooper Flagg as best players on the side
Team USA is preparing to chase gold in the 2024 Paris Olympics, and 15 players were selected to help the star-packed national team practice for the international tournament. Of those 15 players, Miami Heat rookie Jaime Jazquez Jr. and Duke's Cooper Flagg were the standouts.
The USA Select Team coaches named Jaquez and Flagg as the best players on the lineup. NBA Central reported on the subject and made a post on X (formerly Twitter) about it. The fans, however, flooded the post with troll comments roasting the select coach's choice.
One fan advised them to use better grammar to announce their choice:
"Use a better word than “pegged” for these grown men."
Other fans joined the trolling train and expressed their opinions in the comments section:
"My notification just said 'USA Select Team Coaches pegged Jaime Jacquez Jr.' and I was concerned," @Two4OneHoops said.
"Pegged? WTF," @Legoatszn1 said.
"COACHES DID WHAT," @OneNJump said.
While most fans trolled the poor choice of grammar, others praised Jaquez and Flagg for their talent:
"Jaime Jaquez Jr. stock is thru the roof rn I’m not selling," @lovers4l said.
"cooper flagg just plays the game the right way," @BP1276 said.
Team USA will face Nikola Jokic and Serbia as their first match in Group C of the Paris Olympics.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Cooper Flagg are future Team USA stars
The praise for Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Cooper Flagg is well deserved, as they both have shown potential to be big-name players. Jaquez is coming off a successful rookie campaign with the Miami Heat. He averaged 11.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists last season. He shot 48.9 percent from the field and was ranked fourth in the Rookie of the Year rankings.
Jaquez played the role of a sixth man in his rookie year in Miami. He has created an immediate impact when subbed in. He was also in the race for the Sixth Man of the Year award and finished ninth in the rankings.
As for Flagg, he has been described as a combination of Jayson Tatum, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Paul George and Franz Wagner. The Duke freshman is expected to be the top prospect for the 2025 NBA draft. He has great versatility and can play both as a guard and a forward.
Both players have great potential and can represent Team USA in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
