Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs opened a four-game road swing on Monday with a showdown against the Philadelphia 76ers. "Wemby" struggled on offense early, missing his first four shots and committing two turnovers. He bounced back to finish the quarter with two points and four blocks.
The Frenchman got going on offense in the second period with seven points and added five more swats to his total. Wembanyama recorded two assists but was the catalyst in most Spurs attacks. The 7-foot-3 had highly entertaining one-on-one battles with former MVP Joel Embiid and Philly backup center Andre Drummond. San Antonio trailed 48-43 at halftime.
Victor Wembanyama waxed hot in the third quarter, scoring 11 points to keep his team within striking distance of the 76ers. Wemby added another block and an assist to his totals. The San Antonio Spurs desperately needed everything they could from their star as the Sixers threatened to break the game open.
San Antonio won the fourth quarter 31-27 behind their starters and timely contribution from the bench. Wembanyama added six points in the period, but Tyrese Maxey and Co. held on for a 111-106 win.

Basketball fans saw an exciting battle between Victor Wembanyama and Joel Embiid early in the first quarter. Embiid has the unquestioned advantage in bulk and strength, but Wemby had the length and mobility to bother the former MVP.
Late in the second quarter, the two superstars went at it again. Embiid drove to the basket before spinning to his right but was called for an offensive foul. The Process vehemently argued his case before receiving a technical foul.
Embiid continued to lash out at the referee who called the foul. The second technical foul automatically tossed him out of the game. He finished the game with nine points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Without Joel Embiid, Victor Wembanyama spent most of the night jostling with Andre Drummond and fellow Frenchman Guerschon Yabusele.
