Video: Luka Doncic nails down a trick shot with his shoulder during pre-game shoot around
Luka Doncic's stellar form this season seems to have followed him everywhere. Before the Brooklyn Nets vs. Dallas Mavericks game at home, Doncic converted one of the most bizarre trick shots from just inside the 3-point line during a pre-game shoot-around. The Slovenian hit the rebounding ball with his shoulder, aiming it toward the rim.
Doncic and his teammates went into a frenzy as the ball went through the net. Here's a clip of the shot posted by the NBA's official Twitter account:
Trick shots have become a thing with the Mavericks superstar. He doesn't hesitate to launch the ball from impossible angles mid-game, so that certainly doesn't stop him from making shots off his shoulder during shootarounds.
Doncic has donned the role of an entertainer on the court, which makes him a fan favorite among NBA circles. It would be a treat for NBA viewers to see the three-time All-Star build a tradition and introduce a new trickshot before every game.
Warriors superstar Steph Curry popularized making impossible trick shots during shoot-arounds, which the fans thoroughly loved, so Luka Doncic can look to follow in the footsteps of his fellow All-Star guard.
Luka Doncic records ninth straight 30-point outing as Dallas Mavericks improve to 6-3
Luka Doncic has been on a tear in Year 5 of his NBA career. The former No. 3 pick has gotten better every year, but the leap he made this year is almost unreal. Doncic has recorded 30-point outings in all the nine games he has played thus far.
It's the second-longest 30-point streak a player has recorded in NBA history to start a season. The legendary Wilt Chamberlain tops the record with 23 consecutive 30-point games. He achieved the feat during the start of the 1962-63 season.
Doncic is averaging a league-leading 36.0 points per game, shooting 52.4% from the field. If he is able to keep up this hot scoring streak, he will be the first player since James Harden (2019) to tally at least 36 points per game during the regular season.
He would join Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain and Harden as the only players to average 35+ points per game for an entire season.
Doncic maintained his hot scoring streak during the Dallas Mavericks' 96-94 win over the Brooklyn Nets. The Slovenian tallied 36 points on 50.0% field goal shooting. He made five of nine shots from 3-point range.
At this rate, Luka Doncic looks like a lock to win the MVP award. Opposition defenders don't seem to have an answer for him. The three-time All-NBA player came into the season in peak conditioning, and it seems to be paying off for him.
Doncic will be hoping to continue to make an impact of this magnitude and carry this form into the playoffs. The Mavericks haven't added another superstar to play alongside the Slovenian, so their hopes of making the finals rely on Doncic's shoulders.
