Video: Steph Curry hilariously blames announcer Kevin Harlan after missing his first free throw of the season
Steph Curry's streak of not missing a free throw this season ended against the Phoenix Suns. TNT announcer Kevin Harlan said before Curry's missed attempt that the Warriors star was yet to miss a free throw this year. After bricking the shot, Curry hilariously pointed at Harlan, blaming him for missing the attempt.
Here's the clip:
Up until that point, Steph Curry was 23-of-23 for the season from the foul line. The two-time NBA MVP missed another attempt during the game, going 3-of-5 from the charity stripe against the Phoenix Suns. Curry is off to a good shooting start this year. He has made 45.8% of his shots from the field, including 44.4% from 3-point range.
A 100% free-throw shooting record would have been excellent to keep up with for the reigning finals MVP. The two missed attempts against the Suns may hurt him a little. Nevertheless, Curry will be hoping to maintain his near-perfect record for the rest of the year and potentially break another shooting record.
Warriors struggle despite Steph Curry's hot start to the year
The Golden State Warriors' start to the 2022-23 NBA season has been shaky. They are 2-2 for the year. That's despite Steph Curry averaging 30.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists thus far. The Warriors' issues have popped up on the defensive end of the floor.
They have allowed 124 points per game through four games, the second-worst record in the league. The Dubs are ranked 22nd in defensive ratings (114.8). It was one of their biggest strengths last season. However, with the departures of defensive wings like Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr., the Warriors seem to be struggling.
In their last game against the Phoenix Suns, the Golden State Warriors allowed a whopping 134 points, their third consecutive game conceding 125+ points. The Warriors are struggling with transition defense, an area they were good at last year.
However, the Warriors seem to lack attentiveness on that side of the ball. Multiple reasons could factor in: lack of conditioning after a short offseason, new players trying to gel with the roster and finding chemistry through this initial phase of the season.
Nevertheless, Steph Curry and the Warriors are among the most well-coached and smartest teams in the league. Despite their struggles earlier in the season, there is a belief that they can prevail and rediscover their mojo.
Their offense has improved, so when the Dubs figure out their defensive woes, they could be the unstoppable force they're expected to be around the league.
