During an NBA Today segment titled 'Vince Carter's Upper Room', Carter chose Ja Morant's alley-oop dunk as his favorite of the week. Upon eliciting a surprised reaction from the rest of the crew, Carter stated:

"This man is floating in the air, I'm talking about outside of the box, outside of the square, catch it with the left hand and softly brings it back in. That's like body control. That's air traffic control right there."

Other members of the NBA Today crew disagreed with Carter. However, it is hard to brush aside the opinion of a man who earned nicknames such as 'Air Canada', 'Half Man-Half Amazing' and 'Vinsanity' for his gravity defying dunks.

Vince Carter's Hall of Fame case

'Air Canada' is mostly remembered for his ridiculous athleticism and legendary dunks. His performance in the 2000 dunk contest is often labeled as the best of all time. His dunk at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 may be the best in-game dunk of all time. Carter, however, was much more than a dunker.

Looking ahead to the 2024 class, Carter stands alone as the only first-ballot lock for the Hall of Fame. Younger fans may not remember him as he failed to average 15 points in his final ten seasons.

In his prime, however, Carter was a force of nature. During his eight-year long peak, 'Vinsanity' made the All-Star game every season. Furthermore, during that same stretch, he was able to average 24.8 points per game.

While Carter's protracted career may have altered how he is viewed by some fans, it should help him with Hall of Fame voters. Carter currently ranks 19th on the NBA's all time scoring list, a testament to how good he was in his prime.

The Naismith Basketball Memorial Hall of Fame has shown that they place a high value on peak performance. As was the case with his cousin, Tracy McGrady, Carter will be inducted on his first appearance on the ballot.
