Vince Carter has a hilarious response to Nikola Jokic's hypothetical Raptors move
On Monday, Vince Carter humorously chatted with the "Run It Back" hosts about the idea of Nikola Jokic playing for the Toronto Raptors. When asked if he would allow the Denver Nuggets star to wear his iconic No. 15, the Raptors legend's response was nothing short of hilarious.
“He (Nikola Jokic) better wear 51,” Carter, whose number will be retired by Toronto and the Brooklyn Nets this season, responded to Michelle Beadle.
"I will say this, though. It's funny, I was asked that question ... I said, there's only one person who will probably get that opportunity to wear it, and that's the little man (Carter's son). If he gets that chance to make it in the NBA and crazy enough to play for the Raptors, I will definitely give him the go-ahead," he added.
Denver Nuggets could retire Nikola Jokic's jersey number
Nikola Jokic is arguably the greatest player to ever suit up for the Denver Nuggets. While that title might've once belonged to Carmelo Anthony, the future Hall of Famer couldn't reach the heights Jokic did in Denver. The Serbian giant helped the Nuggets to their first championship in 2023 after nearly five decades in the NBA.
Aside from winning the gold, the big man's individual performances and accolades are worthy enough for the team to retire his jersey number.
Joker is a three-time NBA MVP and six-time All-Star and has six All-NBA selections. He can efficiently score, secure the boards and create opportunities for his teammates. Thanks to his lengthy reach, he also knows how to capitalize on his size advantage on defense.
Nikola Jokic is the walking definition of the modern-day big man. Last season, he averaged 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, 9.0 assists and 1.4 steals. His numbers allowed him to win his third MVP award. While it isn't the first time we've witnessed a center be crowned the league's MVP, no big man has ever accomplished it the way Jokic did.
With all these factors in play, it seems nearly impossible for the Nuggets organization not to retire Jokic's jersey number. The only possible roadblock that could prevent it from happening is Carmelo Anthony. Melo formerly wore the No. 15 during his time in Denver.
If the two legends could work things out, we could witness the first shared retired jersey number.
