Warriors Trade Rumors: Brian Windhorst links LeBron James and $48 million star to team up with Steph Curry
Dating back to the summer, the Golden State Warriors have been linked to numerous star players. As trade season gets ready to kick off in the NBA, one insider mentioned two more stars the front office could be targeting.
With Steph Curry still playing at a high level, Golden State is trying to remain competitive. They've loaded the roster with depth, but have failed to find a promising running mate for the two-time MVP.
While on ESPN's Get Up Wednesday morning, Brian Windhorst gave his latest regarding Golden State. He mentioned Jimmy Butler and LeBron James as two players who could be on their radar.
"The Warriors have been really active trying to look for a star player," Windhorst said. "They kicked the tires on a couple other stars over the summer."
"If Jimmy Butler is available and the Warriors feel like they need to upgrade, that could be. But who else is on their list, that's LeBron James."
This nugget from Windhorst comes on the heels of Shams Charania reporting that the Miami Heat are listening to offers for Butler. As for LeBron, he has not requested a trade from the LA Lakers at this time. However, it's worth noting that there were rumblings of a possible deal with Golden State at last year's trade deadline.
Brian Windhorst cites key factor in Warriors' pursuit of LeBron James
For the second year in a row, reports indicate that the Warriors have their sights set on the NBA's all-time leading scorer. Pairing LeBron with Steph Curry would be an all-time dream scenario for fans, but there is one thing standing in the way.
After bringing up the players Golden State has its eyes on, Brian Windhorst cited a key factor in any hypothetical LeBron trade. That being he has a no-trade clause in his contract, giving him some control over where he goes if the Lakers were to decide to move him.
"I would just say with LeBron," Windhorst said on Get Up. "It's up to him. He has a no-trade clause and has given no indication he wants the Lakers to do anything but upgrade the roster they've got, not that he wants to go anywhere."
While the no-trade clause does put a wrinkle in things, it likely wouldn't be an issue with the Warriors. Seeing that LeBron is fresh off winning a gold medal with Steve Kerr and Steph Curry, the connection is there.
As Windhorst mentioned, LeBron has given no indication he'd like a change of scenery before the February deadline. For now, his focus is trying to keep the Lakers in the playoff picture in a loaded Western Conference.
