Watch: 190lbs Bronny James bullies his defender and talks trash after scoring season-high points
Bronny James didn't hold back on the trash talk after notching up a season-high performance against the Valley Suns. Suiting up for the South Bay Lakers on Thursday, the guard looked in pristine form propping up 26 points, three rebounds, two assists, one steal, and a block as the Lakers vs Suns clash entered its final minutes.
Such was his aggressive barrelling to the rim that James Jr. made sure he let defender Cassius Stanley know he was unguardable.
Working on Stanley, a former Sierra Canyon produce, Bronny James plowed past his defense and later launched a stepback deuce that swished through. What followed was a no-holds-barred trash talk to put a stamp on his already solid evening.
Bronny's efforts though didn't see the side win. But on a personal note, it was a way of the underfire guard shutting down critics and trolls with a game-high 30 points on 13-of-23 shooting despite South Bay lost 106-100 loss.
Bronny James' offensive prowess was on full display against the Valley Suns
Rookie guard Bronny James made sure the world sat up and noticed, making sure that offensive performance was more than just a bucketfest. His statline included three rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block, and two turnovers in 25 minutes.
Throughout the game, James displayed a variety of moves that started with him draining two off-the-dribble 3-pointers. He followed it up by catching an alley-oop off a lightning-quick backdoor cu. He was also relentless in finishing multiple times at the rim through breezing past Suns defenders and sniping a couple of mid-range jumpers. His point-of-attack defense came in the form of swatting away a 3-pointer.
James’ suiting up was a complete contrast to the LA Lakers’ previous plans of him playing in home G League games. The decision garnered immense criticism for the much-discussed and perceived preferential treatment of LeBron James' son after he was picked as the No. 55 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Bronny James, 20, entered the game averaging 8.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.0 blocks, and 2.0 turnovers across his three G League games. He had set his previously notched-up G League career-high of 16 points against the San Diego Clippers last weekend. The number of reps and quality time on the floor will do the young guard a world of good as he wades deeper into his maiden season in the G League and the NBA.
