Watch: Charles Barkley recites lines from 30-year-old commercial verbatim and Inside the NBA crew is left speechless
Three things are certain in life: death, taxes and Charles Barkley forgetting names and monologs. However, that wasn't the case on one of the most recent segments of TNT's "Inside The NBA" show.
Barkley surprised co-panelists Shaquille O'Neal, Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith when he recited lines from a "Right Guard" commercial 30 years ago. Barkley was among the celebrities who acted in a commercial for the brand. He was with the Philadelphia 76ers at the time. Here's the clip of that ad:
Kenny Smith demanded Charles Barkley say the exact monolog when the TNT studio played the commercial. The latter ensured to recite it verbatim. Barkley had this to say about his exploits.
"I had to really study for that commercial."
Considering how lengthy the monolog was, it was indeed an impressive recitation that Barkley did. Over the years, he has been constantly mocked by the rest of the crew for forgetting, mispronouncing, and misspelling names, so this is something he could use in his defense the next time his co-panelists try to troll him.
Shaquille O'Neal hilariously recites Kazam's monolog to overshadow Charles Barkley's verbatim recitation
While Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson may give Charles Barkley a pass now and then, that isn't the case with Shaquille O'Neal. The two former NBA MVPs almost always seem to banter each other. O'Neal didn't give up on that opportunity when he refused to appreciate Barkley's effort for his verbatim recitation of the "Right Guard" commercial.
"Alright, don't clap for that," said O'Neal to Johnson and Smith. "He [Barkley] stumbled on his words."
Shaq didn't hesitate in bringing up one of his monologs from his movie "Kazaam," which was released in 1996. Here's what he said:
"I got one for you from 30 years ago, 'I am Kazaam.' See that? See how fluent it was?"
Kazaam was one of the biggest flops of Shaquille O'Neal's Hollywood career. Earnie Johnson was in no mood to accept the monolog and remember the movie. He roasted O'Neal, saying:
"We're trying to forget that."
The Inside crew continues to give fans some hilarious moments to cherish and look back on for years. Charles Barkley's recitation certainly makes the cut as one of the most memorable moments on the show.
