Watch: Derrick White gets smacked in heated brawl with fan at Colorado football game

Boston Celtics shooting guard Derrick White got caught in a brawl while watching a Colorado football game on Saturday. White was watching the game as a fan when things got heated. He was targeted by a fan in front of him. A video shared by TMZ Sports shows a supporter smacking the Celtics player in the head.

White was attending the game of his alma mater, the University of Colorado. The Buffaloes had a big game against Colorado State over the weekend in Fort Collins.

According to TMZ Sports, one fan witnessed how the brawl started. The fan said that White got into a verbal exchange with a few fans of the opposing team during the second quarter. White's Buffaloes began to turn things around during the next period.

The fan who witnessed the events shared that the verbal dispute between White and the opposing fans escalated. A man swung his arm and hit the head of the Celtics shooting guard. The swing knocked the hat the NBA player was wearing.

Other fans surrounding them tried to calm the fan who initiated the act. White was also heated and had to be held back by a few fans.

Law enforcement arrived at the scene, as reported by TMZ Sports. White was required to vacate the scene of the heated altercation. No police report has been filed from either side.

Fans react to Derrick White getting into an altercation with a fan while watching football

Things quickly escalated for Derrick White and the fan who smacked him in the head. White isn't known in the NBA as someone who would initiate a physical fight. However, things were different when he was at the bleachers with the fans.

Fans reacted to the video of his altercation posted on X (formerly Twitter).

"Of course, the coolest dude the NBA has ever seen is the one getting assaulted," one fan tweeted.
"Protect the Celtics hero Derrick White at all costs!" Another fan tweeted.

Other fans had a few jokes about what happened.

"This Celtics team might be the most disrespected champions ever," one fan tweeted.
"Nicest dude in the league isn’t even safe," another fan tweeted.
"Typical CSU behavior," one fan tweeted.

Luckily, White didn't suffer any significant injuries that might affect his game before the 2024-25 NBA season starts.
