Watch: Dwight Howard shoots brick after brick in 3-point contest in Taiwan

While Dwight Howard will end up in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, it is not due to his ability to shoot three-pointers. Over the course of his 18-year career, the eight-time All-Star knocked down just 22 triples on 21.4% shooting from behind the arc.

Howard has had more freedom to shoot from deep in his first season playing overseas in Taiwan. In ten games, the three-time Defensive Player of the Year has knocked down ten threes, shooting at a 26.3% clip. Despite his increased volume and accuracy, Howard's inclusion in the Taiwanese three-point contest was a bit shocking.

The 2008 Slam Dunk Contest champion got off to a slow start, missing shot after shot to begin his turn. While Howard was able to pick things up towards the end of the round, he was unable to finish his last rack of shots. All in all, the eight-time All-NBA selection finished with a score of 15. While he was unable to advance to the final round of the competition, Howard did avoid a last-place finish as he came in sixth place.

Howard was also named to the All-Star Team. He finished the contest with 37 points, 13 rebounds, eight assists and two steals, helping lead his team to a 179-124 victory. The five-time All-Defensive selection was named MVP of the inaguaral T1 League All-Star Game.

How has Dwight Howard fared in his first season overseas?

Dwight Howard had a very successful NBA career that spanned 18 seasons and saw him earn nearly $250 million in contracts alone. Fans were shocked when the future Hall of Famer decided to sign a contract to play in Taiwan, however, Howard has noted that his decision was driven by a love for the game of basketball and the desire to help expand it globally.

While he has battled injuries during his first season overseas, Howard has been nothing short of dominant. He has averaged 25.6 points, 14.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 53.7% from the field.

It is unclear if Howard has drawn interest from any NBA franchises or if he will look to rejoin the league next season, however, his stint in Taiwan has been largely successful for the eight-time All-Star and the league itself.
