Kevin Durant is entering his second full season (third overall) with the Phoenix Suns. It appears to be now or never for the Suns, who have been all-in since pairing their franchise cornerstone Devin Booker with KD and Bradley Beal, as expectations for them to contend for a title this season will be sky-high.
At the Fanatics Fest event over the weekend, former NBA star Jalen Rose interviewed Suns star Kevin Durant, asking what his expectations were for Phoenix this year. Before Durant could respond, a fan shouted, "Nothing!", drawing laughter from the crowd.
Aside from Rose, Kevin Durant was also alongside Team USA teammate Anthony Edwards, who helped the Minnesota Timberwolves sweep KD's Suns in the first round of last year's playoffs.
Despite this fan's retort, the Suns actually raised expectations with their offseason additions. They picked up veteran point guard Monte Morris and big man Mason Plumlee despite the team's strict budget to bolster their second unit.
A healthy trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal could be arguably the best team in the Western Conference. The only problem is, we have yet to see it.
Despite health concerns, Phoenix's top-end talent could prove too much to count out in 2024-45.
Kevin Durant gives Anthony Edwards new nickname at Fanatics event
At the same event, Kevin Durant revealed his new nickname for Anthony Edwards, after Edwards stated he "felt bad" sending his idol home in the playoffs last season.
While shooting around at the event, Kevin Durant was asked for his thoughts on playing alongside Anthony Edwards during the Olympics. Durant answered, "I call him baby goat," praising Edwards after he drew comparisons to Michael Jordan throughout last season.
Kevin Durant won his fourth Olympic gold medal in Paris suiting up alongside Edwards for Team USA, with each player having crucial roles on the team's journey to securing gold.
Kevin Durant averaged 13.8 points in the Olympics, shooting 54 percent from the field and 52 percent from behind the arc, while Edwards averaged 12.8 points, including a 26-point performance versus Puerto Rico.
