Watch: Jalen Brunson & dad Rick Brunson hilariously struggle to name most of NBA father-son tandems
There have been numerous father-son duos to grace the NBA's hardwood, and to honor them, Jalen Brunson and his father, Rick Brunson, were asked to name these father-son tandems. The Brunson duo were able to name 14 pairs, which seems great, but considering that there were 35 possible answers, it's fair to say that they struggled.
Rick and Jalen Brunson, who are a part of this list, named some iconic pairs. These include players such as Dell Curry and his two sons Steph and Seth, Mychal and Klay Thompson, Tim Hardaway Sr. & Jr., Cole and Greg Anthony, as well as Domantas and Arvydas Sabonis.
Watch as Rick and Jalen list other father-and-son duos who, like them, also played in the NBA.
Rick Brunson played in the NBA from 1997-2006, wherein he got to play for the New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers, Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, LA Clippers, and the Houston Rockets.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks selected Jalen Brunson with the 33rd pick in the 2018 draft. He signed with the New York Knicks in 2022, and his father, Rick, is a part of the coaching staff.
They are the second father-son pairing to also be a part of an organization as a player-coach following Doc Rivers and Austin Rivers. However, Doc was a head coach. Rick is an assistant.
Who are other iconic father-son duos that Rick and Jalen Brunson missed
With a total of 35 father-and-son duos having played in the NBA, it can't be helped that some will be considered more memorable or more iconic than others.
Rick and Jalen Brunson were able to name some well-known members of this club, such as the Currys and the Thompsons. However, they missed some iconic ones, such as Joe "Jellybean" Bryant and his son, five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant.
They also failed to mention the Barrys. Rick Barry had three sons play in the NBA, namely Jon, Drew and Brent, with the most popular perhaps being Brent, who won the 1996 Slam Dunk contest as well as two titles with the San Antonio Spurs ('05, '07).
Then there's also the Waltons, Bill and Luke. Bill Walton had an iconic career that was otherwise marred by various injuries. Nevertheless, he still has a regular season and a Finals MVP, a Sixth Man of the Year award and two championships to his name.
His son Luke is also a two-time NBA champ. This made the Waltons the first father-son duo to win multiple NBA Titles.
These are not the only father-son pairings to have played in the NBA but some of the most iconic. Soon, there will be plenty more father-son duos who can say they both got to play in the NBA.
In fact, LeBron James and his son Bronny could potentially be the next to claim this distinction.
