Watch: Landry Shamet's shoulder pops out in brutal injury during KnicksĀ preseason

Landry Shamet suffered a right shoulder injury during the New York Knicks preseason game against the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday night. Shamet has been playing well for the Knicks and there was a good chance that he earned rotational minutes this upcoming season.

In the video below, Shamet was on transition defense along with teammate Cameron Payne. Moussa Diabate had the ball and was ready to attack the rim with authority when Shamet tried to strip him with a big swipe.

The 27-year-old guard hit Diabate's hand and the ball, but no foul was called as the play continued. However, Shamet was writhing in pain and holding onto his right shoulder.

Replays showed that he suffered a right shoulder injury and had to be taken back to the locker room for further evaluation.

Landry Shamet signed an Exhibit 9 deal with the New York Knicks this offseason after playing for the Washington Wizards last season. Shamet averaged 7.1 points and shot 33.8% from threes in Washington. He was set to earn a potential roster spot for a Knicks team with not a lot of depth.

But with his injury not looking good, it's another unfortunate situation for the Knicks, already hobbled by injury woes since last season.

Mitchell Robinson won't be available to start the regular season since he's still recovering from offseason ankle surgery.

Injuries hampered the Knicks in the playoffs, leaving head coach Tom Thibodeau no choice but to play undersized players in the frontcourt. It will be interesting to see if New York will give a roster spot to Shamet despite his injury.

The Wichita State product has been in the NBA since 2018 and has played for five teams so far in his career. He has suited up for the Philadelphia 76ers, LA Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards.

New York Knicks fans were rightfully worried about Landry Shamet after he suffered a right shoulder injury against the Charlotte Hornets.

Some fans even likened it to the injury that ended Julius Randle's season. It needed surgery, missed the playoffs and is now with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

According to Ian Begley of SNY, coach Tom Thibodeau has no update on Shamet's injury.

Thibs told reporters that he hasn't spoken to the team's medical team but knows they are still evaluating the backup guard. He also praised Shamet for having a good training camp.

Dr. Eric Friedman, a team doctor for U.S. Ski & Snowboard, thinks that Shamet suffered a dislocated shoulder and will need surgery to repair the torn labrum. Friedman also speculated that Shamet might not make the Knicks roster because of it.
