Watch: LeBron James crowns himself while misinterpreting cheers for Olympian Leon Marchand
LeBron James had a solid outing against Brazil today. Team USA won by 35 points to advance to the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympic tournament. James played a big chunk of the first half and a couple of minutes in the second half during the runaway win.
However, LeBron's most curious moment during the game didn't occur when he was on the court. The LA Lakers superstar seemingly thought fans were cheering his name while they gave it up for French swimmer Leon Marchand.
With just over two minutes left on the clock, James was spotted by the cameras and he didn't miss the chance to crown himself to let everybody know who is the king.
Marchand was visibly confused when the cameras turned to him. Fans were heard chanting 'Leon, Leon,' which could have been confused for LeBron, LeBron. Anyway, the confused monarch put on a good show for the fans and led his team to the semifinals of the Olympic basketball tournament.
James played 16:39 minutes, scoring 12 points on 5-of-6 from the field and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. He was one assist shy of a double-double while grabbing three rebounds and recording three steals.
What happened to LeBron James during the Brazil game?
Realizing he had done enough damage to Brazil and with other players ready to take over the game, Steve Kerr kept LBJ from re-entering the contest. Brazil's Georginho de Paul unintentionally hit LeBron in the left eye. James was assisted to the locker room for evaluation.
Team USA is set to face Serbia next in the Olympic tournament. That said, LeBron's health status is key for the undefeated squad. The King hasn't announced anything serious about his eye, though. If everything goes well, he should be available against the Nikola Jokic-led group on Thursday.
