Savannah James thanks the Cleveland Cavaliers for drafting her husband
LeBron James started his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers. It's the team closest to his hometown of Akron, Ohio, which happens to be Savannah James' hometown, too.
The couple became official in high school back in 2002, a year before LeBron's NBA dreams became true. It was also beneficial for both of them to have the basketball star play close to home.
In the season finale of Savannah's "Everybody's Crazy" podcast, which she co-hosts with April McDaniel, she shared her appreciation for the Cavs organization.
"Obviously, LeBron got drafted to Cleveland when we was younger, and I’m from Akron — I’m from 30 minutes down the road — but I don’t know," she said. "If I had to ask him if he was sittin’ here … I think that he would say the same in, like, ‘I don’t know what would have happened.’ So, thanks, Cleveland Cavaliers."
Savannah shared that they don't know if they'd stay a couple if he was drafted by a different team. The short distance where the Cavs are located helped their relationship.
"We’ve talked about this a lot," Savannah added. "So, thanks, guys [Cavs]. But we’ll never know." [35:00 mark of the show].
Back in 2003, it was evident that James would be picked by the Cavs. Despite being fresh out of high school, the 6-foot-8 forward showed potential early in his basketball career. In the end, picking him was the best decision the franchise made.
