Watch: Michael Jordan embraces Tyler Reddick after 23XI Racing’s dramatic Homestead NASCAR win
Tyler Reddick, 23XI Racing racer, gets an enthusiastic hug from his team owner, Michael Jordan. Reddick recently qualified for the NASCAR Championship Race after coming up with a huge victory in the NASCAR Playoffs. In the final moments of the race, Tyler found himself catching up to the leader. At the last moment, he overtook the leader and had a clear path to the finish line.
After the race, Reddick talked about what transpired in the race in an interview. While the interview was still ongoing, Michael Jordan couldn't help but celebrate and gave his racer a hug.
Tyler Reddick's most recent victory marks his third win this season. Reddick led 97 laps on Sunday and looks to carry on that momentum heading to the championship race.
Looking at Michael Jordan's ownership of 23XI Racing
Basketball legend Michael Jordan explored other things he could do outside of his main sport and invested in a NASCAR team. Back in 2020, there were rumors spreading that Jordan was interested in purchasing an ownership stake in Richard Petty Motorsports.
Eventually, Jordan teamed up with Denny Hamlin to form their own NASCAR team, 23XI, pronounced as "twenty-three eleven." The 23 in the team's name is a representation of "MJ," as he sported the same jersey number for the majority of his basketball career. As for the XI, it represents Hamlin as he raced using the number 11 in his entire career as a NASCAR racer.
Throughout the team's history, 23XI Racing has had five racers, two of whom are full-time. The current full-time racers for the team are Bubba Wallace and their most recent NASCAR Championship Race qualifier, Tyler Reddick. Wallace is currently using the number 23 for his vehicle, while Reddick sports the number 45.
Coincidentally, the numbers 23 and 45 were the same jersey numbers Jordan wore during his time with the Chicago Bulls. As for the three other part-time drivers, Kamui Kobayashi, Corey Heim and Juan Pablo Montoya, they race under the number 50.
Michael Jordan's son Marcus celebrates 23XI Racing’s victory
Marcus Jordan, son of basketball Hall of Famer Michael Jordan, was proud of his father's NASCAR team as Tyler Reddick came up with a huge victory. Marcus went on Instagram to repost the video of the final moments of the race.
Aside from the final moments of the race, Marcus reposted images of Tyler Reddick and his car.
