Watch: New police body cam video of Rajon Rondo’s arrest for gun and marijuana possession surfaces online
Months after Rajon Rondo got in trouble with the law, the video surfaced online. The two-time NBA champion was charged with unlawful carrying of a handgun and two more chargers after speeding on a highway in Indiana in January of this year.
What started as a routine stop got worse, as the cops found marijuana and a firearm in his vehicle. The video released by TMZ shows the police pulling over Rondo's Tesla before checking him. One of the officers claimed he smelled marijuana and proceeded to search the vehicle, finding a gun and the substance.
Back in September, it was reported that Rondo was sentenced to serve probation after pleading guilty to the charges. He was originally set to serve 180 behind bars but was slated to be on probation instead. This means he will need to stay out of trouble for six months to avoid getting sent to jail.
Rajon Rondo announced his retirement from the NBA in April. The two-time NBA champion last played in 2022, sharing stints with the LA Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Rajon Rondo treasures opportunity to learn from NBA champion coach
After his retirement as a player, Rajon Rondo is now concentrating on a potential NBA coaching career. The former Boston Celtics and LA Lakers star was invited as a guest coach by Doc Rivers for the Milwaukee Bucks' training camp.
Rondo was a key part of the Boston Celtics' 2008 championship-winning team, which Rivers coached.
At the start of the month, the retired point guard said he was learning from this experience and how things need to fall into place for teams to be successful.
"There's a lot of factors that go into coaching. You just can't say, I'm going to be a coach, and then everything works out and that's how it happens. So certain personalities have to mesh, [and there's] a lot of sacrifice. There are certain things that I'm learning. The morning meetings, the amount of hours you're spending watching film, it's a lot," Rondo said, via ESPN.
Rivers said that people will see 'a lot' of Rondo this season, but his role with the team remains undisclosed.
