Watch: Scottie Pippen rocks Texan outfit to watch son Scotty Pippen Jr. in action courtside vs MavericksĀ
Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen attended his son, Memphis Grizzlies guard Scotty Pippen Jr.'s, Tuesday NBA Cup West Group C clash against the Dallas Mavericks. The six-time NBA champion arrived at Dallas' American Airlines Center sporting a Texan outfit courtside.
Following his impressive 21-game stint with Memphis on a two-way contract last season, Pippen Jr. was awarded a four-year, $9.6 million deal in October. He has since proven to be a key two-way reserve for the 14-7 Grizzlies, who entered Tuesday riding a six-game winning streak.
The third-year point guard has also filled in as a starter when necessary, delivering several standout performances. That includes dropping a career-high 30 points and 10 assists on 81.3% shooting in a 142-131 road victory against his father's ex-squad on Nov. 23.
Amid Memphis' winning streak, Pippen supported his son courtside in Texas. The Hall of Famer was introduced on the jumbotron to the Bulls' iconic 1990s intro song "Sirius" by The Alan Parsons Project. He sported blue jeans, a long-sleeved black shirt and a black cowboy hat.
While Memphis started 1-2 in NBA Cup play, it began the evening just 1.5 games back of the Western Conference's No. 1 seed. So, Pippen should have plenty of exciting matchups featuring his son to look forward to this season.
Scotty Pippen Jr. on opportunity to play key role for Grizzlies
Last month, Scotty Pippen Jr. touched on his journey from the NBA G League to earning a guaranteed NBA deal with Memphis.
After going undrafted in the 2022 NBA draft, Pippen Jr. struggled to earn playing time on a two-way contract with the LA Lakers during the 2022-23 season. However, after getting called up by the Grizzlies and earning another two-way deal in January, his fortunes changed, leading to his latest four-year contract.
"Last year at this time, I was in the G League, just trying to get a spot in the NBA," Pippen Jr. told CBS Sports' James Herbert. "And to be here, less than a year later, in the rotation, coming off the bench early and playing well, this definitely is a surreal moment for me."
Through 21 appearances, Pippen Jr. is averaging 11.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 3-pointers per game, shooting 48.4%.
