Watch: Shams Charania sends his Super Bowl sneakers to Kay Adams as Valentine's gift on live show
Shams Charania has continued to provide NBA fans with breaking news round the clock for years now. The NBA insider, who was previously under the tutelage of the great Adrian Wojnarowski, rarely takes time off from his duties as a reporter for The Athletic. Despite that, he was recently photographed at the NFL Super Bowl this past weekend alongside fellow reporter Kay Adams.
The pair have shown some on-camera chemistry in the past, most notably when Adams took Charania's phone in a joking manner. Despite that, when a fan on social media asked if Adams was at the Super Bowl with Shams, she responded that she was, calling the NBA insider her bestie.
That sparked a number of reactions from fans, some of whom cracked jokes, while others indicated that he could make it out of the friend zone. In the wake of the Super Bowl, Shams Charania gifted Adams with a pair of shoes, which were delivered to her live on-air on Wednesday.
After receiving the package, Adams opened up the shoe box, revealing the shoes inside, while also showing off the handwritten message from the NBA insider.
"Kay, with much love + with much admiration for you as a person, Happy Valentine's - Shams," read the note from Shams Charania

After unboxing the shoes and showing them off to the camera, the pieces started to fall into place as Adams realized what had happened. As she indicated, the shoes gifted to her were the same pair that Shams Charania was wearing at the Super Bowl.
As things then began to click, Adams realized that Shams had asked her shoe size previously, indicating that he likely planned out the surprise. The shoes were then shown on camera, with one notable detail on the sole that caught the attention of fans.
Printed on the side of the rubber sole was: GF-01, indicating that Charania may be trying to escape the friend zone after Adams' "bestie" post at the Super Bowl. Despite that, when looking at other shoes from the same line, the GF-01 tag is printed on all of the other Geiger shoe models.
While Shams Charania has yet to respond to the situation, the video has caught the attention of NBA fans. As Adams indicated at the end of the video, the shoes are the John Geiger brand, an upscale sneaker company with shoes beginning at $220 on their website.
The specific model, titled the Red Hand Distressed GF-01, is currently sold on the site for $230 before shipping after releasing on Friday, Feb. 9. As a post announcing the shoe indicated on social media last week, all pairs ordered at the time were promised to be delivered before Valentine's Day, including Adams'.
