Watch: Shaquille O'Neal fuels beef with Rudy Gobert by sharing Nuggets guard posterizing him twice
Shaquille O'Neal is not trying to end his beef with Rudy Gobert anytime soon. The four-time NBA champion took a subtle shot at the Minnesota Timberwolves big man on Instagram on Sunday. O'Neal shared two reels of Denver Nuggets guard Christian Braun dunking on Gobert.
Braun caught Gobert in a crazy poster slam on Nov. 1 in the Timberwolves' 119-116 win over the Nuggets. The third-year guard drove to the lane and dunked the basketball with two hands over the four-time Defensive Player of the Year.
Gobert was not happy with Braun taunting him after the poster, so he tried to shove him twice. Several Nuggets players including Russell Westbrook tried to go after the Timberwolves center, but cooler heads prevailed. Gobert and Braun were called for a double technical foul.
Here are the reels shared by Shaquille O'Neal on his IG stories:
One of the reels also featured Christian Braun's first poster dunk on Rudy Gobert last season. There wasn't any hostility back then, but Shaquille O'Neal seemed to have found it interesting enough to share on his Instagram stories for his followers to see.
O'Neal has never been fond of Gobert since the French star signed a massive five-year, $205 million contract extension with the Utah Jazz back in 2020. The Hall of Famer was critical of Gobert's lack of offense or his lack of development in that area of the game.
The latest chapter of the beef happened in September when "Diesel" called Gobert the "worst player in the NBA" in an appearance on his son, Myles O'Neal's podcast via Complex Sports.
"If you sign a contract for ($250 million), show me you're 250," Shaq said, according to ESPN. "There's a reason why I walk funny and why I can't turn my neck and why I can't do it because I played for my ($120 million). So you got guys like him that f**k the system over and they're making all this money and they can't f**king play. So I don't respect guys like that."
Rudy Gobert has since responded to Shaq by calling it "sad" that someone like one of the greatest ever worries about his finances publicly.
Shaquille O'Neal explains criticism of Rudy Gobert
Speaking on "The OG's Podcast" with Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller in late September, Shaquille O'Neal doubled down on his criticism of Rudy Gobert. O'Neal explained that he's trying to light a fire and people call it "hating." (Start at 36:41)
"A lot of these big men, when I put out these challenges, they fail the test because they respond," O'Neal said. "They're sensitive. When I speak, I try to speak from facts. It may come out wrong and you may think I'm hating. His comment, 'You're trying to stay relevant,' I got 15 commercials. What the f**k you talking about?"
It seems like the only way for Gobert to get on Shaq's good side is if he can help the Minnesota Timberwolves win a championship.
