Watch: Steph Curry links up with Katie Ledecky in Paris to commemorate 50 years of USA Basketball

Steph Curry is on a quest to win his first Olympic gold in Paris in 2024. While he and the team have dominated the competition so far to finish atop Group C and are focused on beating Brazil in the quarterfinals, there’s more to the quadrennial event than just competition.

Team USA hosted an event to celebrate 50 years of USA Basketball on Monday. The celebration saw some of the biggest names in sports make footfall, including Katie Ledecky.

While Curry might be new to the games, Ledecky is the most decorated U.S. female Olympian with 14 medals, including nine gold. The two linked up during the celebration. A video of the meeting was shared on X, formerly Twitter, by NBA. The caption read:

“That's a lotta splash power. Katie Ledecky x Stephen Curry”

The caption was a wordplay on Ledecky’s prowess in the pool and how Curry and Klay Thompson came to be known as the Splash Bros during their 13 years together with the Golden State Warriors. Even though Thompson parted ways with Golden State in the offseason, the two sharpshooters are likely to be addressed by the nickname for the rest of their lives.

Curry and Ledecky weren’t the only stars in the event, as Tom Brady was caught having a chat with LeBron James. Former soccer star Megan Rapinoe and her partner, WNBA legend Sue Bird, were photographed at the red carpet event as well.

Steph Curry hasn’t had the best 2024 Paris Olympics yet

The Warriors guard hasn’t been able to do much of what he is renowned for in the 2024 Paris Olympics: make a splash. Steph Curry averages just 7.3 points in three games, shooting just 32.0% from the floor. Those aren’t good numbers for any player, let alone for one of the best shooters in the game.

The NBA leader in 3-pointers made has struggled from beyond the arc as well. He has made just five 3-pointers so far in 19 attempts, which is just a 26.2% conversion. In Team USA’s 103-86 win over South Sudan, Curry went 0-for-6 from the 3-point line.

Those are worrying numbers, and it should be something that Curry would want to rectify against Brazil on Tuesday. Coach Steve Kerr has shown a lot of faith by starting the guard in all three games so far. If Steph Curry’s shooting woes continue, could the coach make the tough call of benching his Warriors superstar?
