Watch: Trae Young and Zach LaVine hit the floor at USC court during offseason
Zach LaVine and Trae Young were spotted on the USC floor earlier, as the two guards scrimmaged as part of their offseason workouts. Young was seen perfecting his passing while showcasing his pacy offensive prowess. LaVine focused on his jumpers and fadeaways as the duo's pickup games showcased intensity ahead of the upcoming season.
Both players were major names on the trade block earlier this season, and incidentally, both All-Stars were linked to the LA Lakers as the team's third big name alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. At the time of writing, Young and LaVine are expected to suit up with their respective teams on opening day.
The Bulls and Hawks failed to make the playoffs last season. Both Eastern Conference teams made the play-in and faced off against each other with Chicago winning the contest. However, the former was eliminated with a loss to the Miami Heat.
Trae Young had a productive season with Atlanta despite the team's 36-46 run. He ended his season with 25.7 points and 10.8 assists per game in 54 appearances. The same couldn't be said for Zach LaVine as the injury-riddled SG was shut down after 25 games. He averaged 19.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg and 3.9 apg.
Zach LaVine to Lakers trade rumors continue to do the rounds
Zach LaVine has been linked to the LA Lakers for some time now, and while the news went cold early on in the summer, the rumors have returned. The Bulls star has been making headlines on social media with his practice workouts that see him at 100% health. The former UCLA star seems to be in top shape displaying his array of shooting, dunks, and midrange snipers ahead of the new season.
The Lakers have stood pat this free agent after losing some major names to other teams, and LaVine, despite his three-year, $138 million contract reportedly continues to be a name to ink a deal with the Purple and Gold.
There is no doubt that LaVine will raise the ceiling for the Lakers. He will be a potent offensive weapon and is a reliable option should James or Davis miss out or be rested for a few games. While his injury history is another cause for concern, Zach LaVine might just be the player LA needs not just to fill the void of a third star, but also as a player for the future.
