Watch: When Derrick Rose refused to participate in LeBron James and Dwight Howard's All-Star intro gimmicks

Former NBA Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player Derrick Rose announced his retirement from basketball on Thursday, September 26.

Fans are fondly looking back on Derrick Rose's historic career and the number of legendary moments it featured. Among these moments was a humorous clip from the 2011-2012 NBA season during All-Star weekend.

The clip features two members of the Eastern Conference All-Star team, Dwight Howard and LeBron James, dancing as their names are announced in the 2011 All-Star game introductions. Derrick Rose was visibly uninterested in joining the two players in their dance and began waving to the crowd instead.

A version of the clip resurfaced on X on Thursday morning.

In an interview later, Derrik explained why he did not take part in the dance, saying:

"I can dance," Rose said. "But there's a time and place for that, and I don't think it was right then and there."
"I don't care," Rose added. "You just know that's me, man. If you would have saw me out there dancing, you would have been looking at me different. I'm just me. I can't be anybody else. I think that's what people see."

The 2010-11 NBA MVP averaged 21.8 points, 7.9 assists and 3.4 rebounds in his third All-Star appearance. This was Rose's final All-Star appearance in his NBA career, despite averaging 18-plus points in three different seasons after his career-altering ACL injury.

Derrick Rose calls it a career on Thursday morning

The former MVP is one of the most beloved players in NBA history, with high flying dunks and a notable skillset. Derrick Rose made three straight All-Star appearances in his first four NBA seasons before his heartbreaking ACL injury that changed the course of his career.

Rose spent three seasons in Chicago after his injury before being traded to the New York Knicks ahead of the 2016-17 NBA season. Rose continued to battle injuries despite playing a lesser role but continued to shine coming off the bench.
