Watch: When a water cannon caused mayhem in San Antonio Spurs arena & NBA fans had to use their umbrellas
The San Antonio Spurs are one of the few older teams in the NBA that started life in the American Basketball Association. They're making a return to the iconic Alamodome this season, which is a great time to refresh the memories of fans of what occurred in the famed arena.
The Spurs are celebrating their 50th anniversary in the NBA this season and plan to commemorate the event by playing a game in their old arena. The Alamodome was home to the San Antonio franchise from 1993 to 2002 before the team moved to the AT&T Center.
During the opening night of the 1994-95 season, the team organized an exciting night in celebration of their new season. Fans were thrilled and players were electrified to start the new season, until a water cannon stole the show. In the new episode of "Ring of the Rowel," we see what took place during the Spurs' opening night.
The people operating the water cannon inside the arena couldn't stop the intense rush of water, which caused multiple problems. Fans quickly avoided the area where the water was shooting and many even brought their umbrellas out. Players from the Spurs couldn't help but just stand in the middle, though.
NBA legend David Robinson couldn't help but laugh at the odd happenstance. Good thing fans brought their umbrellas to the game. The moment will forever live on in the memories of the fans who witnessed it and the ones who got wet before the game.
The Spurs lost their season opener against the Golden State Warriors 123-118. But the game is remembered for being delayed due to a loose water cannon.

The San Antonio Spurs are celebrating their 50th anniversary
The San Antonio Spurs are one of the most accomplished teams in the history of the NBA. Their dedication to winning has given them five championships, making them a respected organization.
To celebrate their 50th anniversary, the Spurs announced before the start of the season that they'll be playing a game back in their old arena, the Alamodome. It will be on Jan. 13 against the Golden State Warriors. On a much earlier date, Dec. 17, the team will play a game in Mexico City, playing at the Arena CDMX against the Miami Heat.
Additionally, San Antonio will play two games in Austin, Texas, on April 6 and 8, 2023 at the Moody Center. The games will be against the Portland Trail Blazers and the Minnesota Timberwolves, respectively.
The Spurs also debuted three different jerseys to commemorate their tenure in the league. The first one is a back-in-black design, honoring the George Gervin era. Another is an homage to the 1996 All-Star Game, which took place in the Alamodome. The final is a statement uniform for this season.
