Watch: WWE legend surprises Kevin Durant with Texas Longhorns championship belt
Fresh from winning a gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Kevin Durant received a special gift from former WWE superstar and current Chief Content Officer, Triple H. Durant was given a customized Texas Longhorns WWE title during the Fanatics Fest in New York City.
Durant played college basketball in Texas before becoming the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft by the Seattle Supersonics — now the OKC Thunder.
Despite not winning the national championship in his college career, Durant has since won two NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors and has been the most decorated men’s basketball player in Olympic history after winning his fourth gold medal with Team USA in Paris.
In a post on X, Triple H hopes Durant will continue to embody the Texas legacy through the custom title.
“Ran into @KDTrey5 at @FanaticsFest and had to make sure he could (literally) carry the @TexasLonghorns legacy wherever he goes,” the WWE executive and 14-time world wrestling champion posted.
The championship belt was designed with the Longhorns' marquee orange colorway and its logo in front. Durant was thrilled to receive the title, as he remains a Texas legend at heart despite years of superstardom in the NBA.
“I’ve always wanted one of these,” Durant was heard saying in the video.
Kevin Durant gets high praise from NBA superstar and Team USA leader
Since his days with the Thunder, Kevin Durant was already deemed as one of the greatest players ever. As his accolades grew throughout the years, he has also received recognition from other legends of the game from past and present.
Following his history-making gold medal in this year’s Olympics, Durant was given high praise by the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and former on-court rival, LeBron James.
“KD is one of the all-time greats,” said James in a report by Andscape.
“If you look at his silhouette, look at his skill, he is one of the best players we have ever seen play the game of basketball. No matter your opinion about him or whether you like him, if you really just look at basketball and say basketball player talent, he is out of this world,” he added.
Durant is arguably the greatest Team USA basketball player ever. He is the USA's leading Olympic scorer with 518 points in 28 games. He also holds the record for most field goals, free throws, and 3-pointers in Team USA history.
Entering his 17th season in the NBA, Durant could still add more trophies to his collection as the Phoenix Suns remain one of the league’s best teams on paper with him, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal leading the charge.
