"We gave you $300 million" - Rapper Gillie Da Kid calls out Joel Embiid for 'done way too much" claim to skip 76ers games
Prominent rapper Gillie Da Kid made some strong statements on Joel Embiid being sidelined since the NBA season commenced. Philadelphia 76ers fans like him are growing frustrated with the situation given how the team is off to a 1-5 start.
On Tuesday on the rapper's show, "Gillie on Sports," he called out Embiid.
"We just watched (Embiid) play in the Olympics, bro," Gillie Da Kid said. "Then, after the Olympics, you had rest and recovery time. Then, it started when the season come, you not playing for (Philadelphia), bro.
"I came to see (Embiid), man. I know why Paul George ain't playing. I've seen him get hurt in the preseason, man. We don't even know why you ain't playing. You don't tell us until the fourth game why you ain't playing, and you can't see why as a Philadelphia fan we're frustrated? Then, you say all you did for this f***ing city? Bro, we gave you $300 million, man."
Why hasn't Joel Embiid played yet?
Six games have passed for the Philadelphia 76ers, and fans have yet to see Joel Embiid play. Since the beginning of the season, it has been unclear why the Sixers star hasn't been available. Eventually, Embiid was listed in the injury report as going through injury management.
The 76ers are having their star big man go through left knee management. It's similar to what he went through last season. Embiid was limited to 39 games last year due to surgery to fix a meniscus tear. Because of the circumstances, Philadelphia doesn't want to risk losing its star player again this season.
However, Embiid played in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The big man played in all of Team USA's games to help them win the gold medal. It's easy to see why a Sixers fan like Gillie Da Kid is frustrated with his sudden absence this NBA season.
It appears that Joel Embiid will suit up for Philly soon. According to reports, Embiid was supposed to make his season debut during the team's ongoing road trip, which has two games in Los Angeles (Wednesday at the Lakers and Friday at the Lakers).
However, on Tuesday, the NBA suspended Embiid for three games for his locker room altercation with a reporter on Saturday. That suspension won't begin until he is placed on the active roster again.
"We'll now here very soon, by (Tuesday) night, I would expect the Sixers to let us know whether Joel Embiid will be cleared for action (Wednesday at) the Clippers, which would then mean that his suspension clock starts on Wednesday," ESPN's Shams Charania said. "And then he would make his debut as soon as Tuesday against the Knicks next week."
