'We good': Atlanta Hawks Twitter distances Hawk Tuah girl from Trae Young links despite her 'endorsement' of their roster
The Atlanta Hawks have passed on an 'endorsement' from the "Hawk Tuah" girl, also known as Hailey Welch. The social media celebrity's rise to fame has been meteoric but not everyone is a fan.
Welch became a viral sensation in June when she gave an interview during a night out on the town that was posted by Tim and Dee TV. The 21-year-old has become a household name and was in the headlines once again this week when she showed her support for the NBA's Atlanta Hawks and invited All-Star Trae Young on her podcast.
On Friday, the NBA organization commented on Welch's video, which is circulating on social media, and distanced themselves from the popular internet star. The Hawks' official X account (formerly known as Twitter) responded with a succinct two-word response:
"We good," commented the Hawks' X account.
In the video from Welch that was released on TikTok earlier this week, she said that she would be "riding with the Hawks" this season. Welch then sent a direct message to the team's talented point guard, Trae Young, inviting him to join her on her podcast "Talk Tuah."
"Trae Young, this is my official invite to be my first NBA player on "Talk Tuah," said Welch. "Let's go Hawks."
Welch's podcast has over 173,000 subscribers on YouTube and her videos usually rack up hundreds of thousands of hits, with one episode even crossing the two million mark. With the NBA regular season now officially underway, getting an established basketball star on her podcast would definitely draw traffic.
It is no surprise that Welch would be backing the Atlanta Hawks. The Tennessee native is from the south and the Georgia team is one of the most popular in the region.
Prior to her endorsement of the Atlanta Hawks, Hawk Tuah girl showed support for the MLB's New York Mets
The Atlanta Hawks are not the only sports team that Hailey Welch has been seen supporting. Earlier this year, Welch made an appearance at Citi Field to throw out the inaugural first pitch during a game between the New York Mets and Oakland Athletics.
Welch came out wearing a classic Mets blue and white pinstripe jersey with her name on the back with the No. 1. She threw out a good first pitch and received loud applause from the Mets fans at the ballpark.
