"We would've had 20 rings" - Kevin Durant's mom Wanda drops 'cold' take on Steph Curry & 4x Olympic gold medalist's Warriors' dominance
Kevin Durant's mother Wanda dropped her take on Steph Curry and her son's dominance with the Golden State Warriors. Durant and Curry won two NBA championships in three seasons before parting ways in 2019. Wanda thought that they could have won more rings if they had stayed together.
In a recent episode of the "Raising Fame" show on TV One, Sonya Curry (the mother of Steph Curry) and Lucille O'Neal (the mother of Shaq) welcomed Wanda to discuss how she raised one of the greatest players in history. The trio of mothers have a lot in common considering they raised three of the best to ever do it.
Wanda reminisced about the time she got close to Sonya when Kevin Durant joined the Warriors.
"Sonya, you and I, we were in the thicket together for a few years. I ain't really want him to go either. … Man, we would've had 20 rings by now. And it was about 10 years ago. That's how cold they were," Wanda said.
Kevin Durant and Steph Curry played together for just three seasons, making it to the NBA Finals every year. They won back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018 before losing to the Toronto Raptors in 2019. Durant suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Game 5, sealing his exit from the Golden State Warriors.
The former MVP entered free agency and signed a contract with the Brooklyn Nets. He had an uneventful stay in Brooklyn, and he's now playing for the Phoenix Suns. He's still searching for his third championship, while Curry and company won another one in 2022.
Steph Curry and Kevin Durant win Olympic gold in France
Steph Curry and Kevin Durant became teammates again this summer when they both represented the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It was an opportunity for Curry to make his debut for Team USA, while Durant was gunning to win his fourth Olympic gold medal.
The former Golden State Warriors teammates were an important part of the Americans' run to the final against hosts France. Curry put the dagger into the hearts of the French crowd with his fourth-quarter barrage from beyond the arc in the final three minutes of the gold medal game.
Curry finally added an Olympic gold medal to his trophy cabinet, while Durant cemented himself as the greatest men's basketball player in Olympic history. He stands alone as the only player with four Olympic gold medals in men's basketball.
It's unclear if both players will be representing the United States in 2028 when the Olympics move to Los Angeles. Curry expressed doubt about his participation, but Durant is open to it despite being almost 40 years old by that time, as per CBS Sports.
