Former NBA superstar Tracy McGrady has criticized the Minnesota Timberwolves' latest acquisition, Rudy Gobert for his lack of effort on offense and his questionable work ethic.

On "No Chill with Gilbert Arenas," McGrady highlighted Gobert's performance against the Houston Rockets a couple of years ago. The center was being guarded by Chris Paul, who is more than a foot shorter than him, but still struggled to make an impact on offense.

"This is what I’ve been wondering. What the f*** are you doing in the offseason? Like, what is your workout? I was so mad at Rudy when they were playing against the [Houston] Rockets one year, bro, and Chris Paul was guarding him in the post. I was mad as s***. He couldn’t do nothing. Bro, you’re 7’2″, and a point guard is guarding you. He had no moves," Tracy McGrady said.

Tracy McGrady was 6'8" and had incredible handles and explosiveness. At his peak, he was one of the best players in the league. Injuries, however, derailed McGrady's career.

Is Tracy McGrady's criticism of Rudy Gobert fair?

The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired Rudy Gobert from the Utah Jazz in the offseason. Minnesota parted ways with five first-round picks alongside a host of players. The Jazz received Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Leandro Bolmaro, Walker Kessler and Jarred Vanderbilt.

The Timberwolves have been heavily criticized for the number of assets they parted with in the trade for Gobert. The Frenchman is a brilliant defender, but struggles to impact games on offense. While he is 7'2" and has a 7'9" wingspan, he has not turned that into a weapon on the offensive end.

Last season, Gobert averaged fewer than 16 points, shooting around 71% from the field. He attempted 7.7 shots per game, his lowest since the 2015-16 season. Gobert also does not possess a perimeter game. He has not made a single 3-pointer in nine seasons in the league.

McGrady's criticism of Gobert is justified, but the Frenchman will have a chance to silence his critics by leading Minnesota deep into the postseason next year.
