What happened to Andre Drummond? Chicago Bulls veteran deletes social media applications to focus on mental health

Chicago Bulls veteran center Andre Drummond announced on Tuesday that he is deleting all his social media applications to prioritize his mental health. As part of the effort, Drummond is also changing his phone number.

In the meantime, the big man said that he will let his management team take over his social media accounts. Drummond announced the decision via an encouraging message to his fans on Twitter, where he spoke about the importance of mental health.

“Deleting all my social apps, my management will take over. Also changing my number. Time to focus on my mental health. If you too are struggling with your mental health, you are not alone. It’s okay to ask for help,” Drummond tweeted.

Additional details surrounding Drummond’s decision to take a break from social media are unknown. However, this is not the first time that Drummond has spoken up about the importance of mental health.

Drummond also shared a similar message in a video with the National Basketball Players Association last year. In the video, Drummond explained the importance of taking time to yourself to reflect and unwind:

"I believe when I started prioritizing my mental health, it was probably three or four years ago,” Drummond said.
“I caught myself focusing on the wrong things, allowing my everyday life to stress me out. Not really taking care of myself first and worrying about others before myself. You know, that mental aspect of your life that you need to take care of due to whatever you have going on.
“You don’t have to be a basketball player. Just an everyday person, you need that time to yourself to really just process and focus on you because when you don’t, it can really take you down.”

Andre Drummond has endured a lot of criticism over the past few years due to his traditional style of play as a center who can’t space the floor. However, he has still provided value as a rebounder and energizer off the bench in his first season with Chicago.

Drummond is averaging 6.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 0.7 steals per game through 62 games. He also leads the Bulls’ regular rotation members in on-court defensive rating at 105.5.

Chicago (36-39, 10th in the East) have gone 29-33 with Drummond.
