What happened to Anthony Davis? Latest update as Lakers star goes down with injury vs Grizzlies (Dec. 15)
The Lakers endured a major scare as star player Anthony Davis went down with an injury against the Grizzlies on Sunday. The All-Star center picked up a left shoulder injury in the third quarter after jostling for a loose ball with rookie Zach Edey. Davis fell to the floor after the ball went out of bounds, clutching his left shoulder in pain.
He took a while to get back up and continued playing. However, coach JJ Redick shortly pulled him out, and Davis headed to the locker room. The Lakers were up 81-61 when he left the floor.
Here's the video of AD's injury:
Anthony Davis tallied 28 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block, shooting 61.1%. He was a team-high +/- +20. The Lakers star is the backbone of the team's system on both ends. Losing him could directly hinder the team's results in every possible game.
Fortunately, it wasn't a significant injury as Davis returned to the bench and checked into the game in the fourth quarter. By the looks of it, he may have picked up a stinger, which seemingly didn't last long.
Anthony Davis helps Lakers close Grizzlies with a 40-point double-double
The Lakers were in a comfortable spot until Anthony Davis left the floor with an injury on Sunday, carrying a 20-point lead. However, the Lakers started to lose grip on the game after he headed to the locker room. The Grizzlies trimmed LA's lead to nine points. However, once AD returned, the Lakers instantly restored a 10+ point lead behind his seven-quick points.
Davis' presence opened chances for everyone on the team. Davis added another three points to his total, finishing the game with 40 points and 16 rebounds, with two steals and one block, leading LA to a 116-110 win.
Memphis has time and again struggled to contain Davis, like most teams, who don't boast a mobile center who can keep up with the Lakers' All-Star. Davis ensured to make the most of it to hand LA an impressive after a rough 3-11 stretch against a team that was on an 11-2 run and the overwhelming favorite to win.
