What are Jaden Ivey’s contract details for 2022-23 NBA season? All you need to know

Jaden Ivey was the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft. The Detroit Pistons selected him out of Purdue, where he averaged 17.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists in his sophomore year. He made his Summer League debut against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Ivey could play in just two games in the Summer League after suffering a minor ankle injury. He entered training camp healthy and played in all four preseason games. He averaged 12 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists in just 26.7 minutes per game.

The 20-year-old guard is part of a young Pistons core that's expected to at least turn a few heads. Led by Cade Cunningham, they could surprise people and make the playoffs. They could also put in great performances some nights, while having bad ones too.

Ivey's first two years are fully guaranteed, while the Pistons have a team option for Year 3 and 4. If Detroit picks up the team option, Ivey will have a salary of $7,977,240 for the 2024-25 season and $10,107,163 for the 2025-26 season. He's eligible to sign a rookie max contract in his third year in the league.

If the Pistons don't sign him to an extension, he will be a restricted free agent in the summer of 2026. Detroit can match any offer sheet Ivey signs. If no team signs him, the Pistons can make a qualifying offer worth $13,402,098 for the 2026-27 season.

Jaden Ivey is expected to start in the backcourt alongside Cade Cunningham for the Detroit Pistons. Cunningham will be the primary ball handler and Ivey will play mostly off the ball. Ivey could also be a secondary playmaker when the team needs him to be.

Ivey has the speed and athleticism that will translate well into the NBA. His shooting needs improvement, but his finishing around the rim is already top notch. He has made strides in his shooting during the preseason and that could carry over into the regular season.

Cunningham has already taken him under his wing despite being just a year older. They are already bonding like brothers and could become one of the best backcourts in the league in a few years.
