What are Jerami Grant’s contract details with Portland Trail Blazers in 2022-23 NBA season as he becomes eligible for contract extension?
The Portland Trail Blazers have reportedly offered Jerami Grant a contract extension in hopes of keeping him. Grant is finally eligible for a contract extension this month and is expected to command up to $16 million annually in his new deal.
Earlier Friday, the Blazers offered Grant a four-year, $112 million contract extension. However, the forward has reportedly turned down the offer, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports. This makes him an unrestricted free agent in the 2023 offseason. Teams could offer Grant more money and better terms in the summer.
Before being traded to the Blazers, he signed a three-year, $60 million deal with the Detroit Pistons in November 2020. Grant earned a guaranteed $19 million in the first season of his contract with the Pistons. In his second season, the two-way forward earned $20 million before getting traded to the Blazers in July.
Grant was shipped to Portland in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick. This season, he's earning up to $21 million with the Blazers. It's possible that the 28-year old forward is looking for a bigger contract from Portland, which is why he declined the offer.

How has Jerami Grant played for the Blazers this season?
Jerami Grant has proven this season that he can fit into any system without any trouble. In his first season with Portland, he's done an exceptional job as their third scoring option and the team's primary ball stopper. Even with Anfernee Simons and Damian Lillard, who are both high volume shooters, Grant has the second-best scoring average of his career.
The Blazers forward is averaging 21.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists this season. He's also shooting 42.4%, a career-high so far. Grant is also averaging a career-high in efficiency from beyond the arc with 42.4%. Portland's system seems to have benefitted from his playstyle so well this season.
Even with Grant, the team hasn't performed well, however. They are currently 23-25 in the Western Conference, putting them close to the bottom of the standings. For them to be in the playoffs, they'll have to play better in the second half of the season.
Grant's having the best efficiency of his career, which could play a major part in his quest to get paid more. To add to that, he's displayed an excellent level of two-way consistency. If Portland is serious about building a team around Lillard, Grant could be a key player.
