What are Kevon Looney's contract details with Golden State Warriors? Salary, duration, and more
Kevon Looney has been playing for the Golden State Warriors for eight seasons since his rookie year in the NBA. Throughout his career, Looney has helped the Warriors win three championships in 2017, 2018, and 2022. Because of his efforts, he's proven to be valuable to the squad and is currently signed to his biggest contract yet.
Kevon Looney is signed to a three-year contract worth $22.5 million with Golden State. The big man is currently playing in the first season of his new contract and is expecting to make $7 million. Come next season, Looney is guaranteed to make $7.5 million. However, according to Spotrac, in Kevon's third and final year of his contract, he'll only be partially guaranteed $8 million.
Depending on whether or not Looney and the Warriors agree to another contract extension, the big man will be an unrestricted free agent come 2025. Given that it’s only Kevon’s first season of his three-year deal, it’s likely he’ll discuss extending with the team come next season or in the 2024-25 season.
Is it game over for the Golden State Warriors?
Last season, the Golden State Warriors reigned triumphant when they won the 2022 NBA Title. It was honestly an accomplishment that not many fans and players in the league were expecting to see. However, this season has been quite different for the Warriors. The team has failed to stay within the top 6 in the West all year long and has recently been struggling with injury problems.
Golden State’s MVP Steph Curry has been out for almost half the season due to his injuries. Not too long ago, Curry missed a lot of playing time when he suffered a shoulder injury last December. Then several games after coming back, the “Baby-Face Assassin” hurt himself again, this time suffering ligament damage in his left leg.
Then there’s the fact that the Warriors’ other reliable player, Andrew Wiggins, has been dealing with family issues. Wiggins has missed five games in a row and hasn’t provided any timetable regarding his return. His absence is also hurting the team as they are now struggling to protect their Playoff spot this year.
Draymond Green, Jordan Poole, and Klay Thompson have been leading the charge ever since Curry and Wiggins went missing. While Poole and Thompson are doing everything they can on offense and Green on defense, Golden State still needs their two other star players back if they want to have a fighting chance.
Hopefully, the Warriors can maintain their spot in hopes that Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins return on time for the 2023 Playoffs or maybe even the Play-In Tournament.
