What are Klay Thompson's contract details with Golden State Warriors? Looking at his salary, length, and potential departure from GSW

The Golden State Warriors have been able to secure All-Star guard Klay Thompson, who is one of the most important players in their championship runs. With that said, there's a chance that he could leave the Warriors once his contract is up and if the front office fails to extend him.

Back in 2019, the Warriors extended Thompson to a five-year $190 million deal. This season marks the fourth year of his deal, which means his contract will end after the 2023-24 season. The four-time champion is currently earning $40 million this season and could enter free agency in the summer of 2024.

Sources: Golden State is planning to offer All-Star Klay Thompson a 5-year, $190M maximum contract when free agency opens Sunday at 6 PM ET --- which is expected to accelerate process of GM Bob Myers and Thompson’s agent, Greg Lawrence, quickly reaching formal agreement.

According to the other half of the Splash Brothers, he has no intention of retiring in 2024. Thompson is looking forward to still being with the Warriors and is hopeful that he gets another contract extension.

Klay is averaging 21.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists for Golden State this season.

Klay Thompson has been excellent for the Warriors' past games

There's no denying that Klay Thompson is one of the best players in recent memory. Along with Steph Curry, they changed the way teams execute their offensive strategies. Thompson is slowly getting back to his usual playing style, which is a great sign for the team moving forward.

Earlier in the season, the five-time All-Star struggled to find his stroke from downtown. This hurt his confidence and place in the team as that's where he excels the most. Luckily for him and the squad, Thompson has found his rhythm, which could be helpful for their playoff push in the final leg of the 2022-23 season.

Just this February, he's had a 40-point game, a 30-point game and two 20-point game. It's also important to mention that he's finally had a chance to play his first back-to-back games since his injury. Finally, just tonight, Thompson dropped another 40-point game which led the Warriors to a win.

As Golden State tries their best to be in the playoff position, their best bet right now is to capitalize on Thompson's momentum. He's the only well-experienced scorer available for the team. However, his health will play a huge role in how heavily he'll be involved in their offense.

With the Warriors currently in the 10th spot in the Western Conference, will Thompson's heroics be enough to save their season?
