"When I look at Paolo, the names like Dominique Wilkins stand out to me" - NBA insider offers intriguing take on Rookie of the Year debate

Out of all the rookies this NBA season, Paolo Banchero has been the biggest surprise for everyone. While many have already chosen Banchero as their Rookie of the Year, Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson thinks there could be someone else deserving of the prize.

Through seven games, Banchero has proven to be part of an elite group of ball players. After the Orlando Magic's win against the Charlotte Hornets, Banchero tied Oscar Robertson as the only other No. 1 pick to start their NBA career with six consecutive 20-point games since 1960 (via Yardbarker.com).

However, his 20-point streak ended after the loss against the Dallas Mavericks. Many experts still believe that the former Duke forward is the clear-cut winner for Rookie of the Year. Scoop B, on the other hand, has brought up Bennedict Mathurin of the Indiana Pacers as a threat to Banchero winning the award.

He said:

"When I look at Paolo, the names like Dominique Wilkins stand out to me as it relays to players who score at least 20 points in their debut. Paolo fills up a stat sheet like it's no other. He's clearly the Rookie of the Year favorite already, but he's definitely in the conversation.
"Again, basketball is a marathon, not a sprint. Guys like Bennedict Mathurin definitely may have a thing or two to say about the significance of that Rookie of the Year award this year."

Paolo Banchero may be on his way to becoming one of the best players in the league. The 2022 rookie class could be one of the most talented group of players the NBA has seen.

Paolo Banchero could be paired up with Victor Wembanyama next NBA season

The NBA has never seen a player quite like Paolo Banchero. As a 6-foot-10 power forward, he has a quick first step that allows him to blow-by bigger defenders. Despite his talent, though, the Magic have struggled to win games this season.

Orlando have started the season 1-6, and are currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. Although the sample size is small, this could carry on in the coming weeks. If the Magic win less than 20 games this season, they will have a shot at drafting Victor Wembanyama.

Wembanyama is the unanimous No. 1 pick for next year's draft. The 7-foot-4 Frenchman is a generational talent and many teams may consider tanking to draft him.

Depending on how the Magic's season progresses, there is a chance they can draft another generational player next year.
