When Shaquille O’Neal peed in his teammate’s shoes as revenge for a harmless prank

NBA legend and analyst Shaquille O'Neal is one of the most dominant players in the history of the league.

Shaq is a 15-time All-Star who won four NBA championships and three Finals MVP awards. Shaquille O'Neal is also known for his pranks and hilarious personality, which he has had since he began playing. Shaq allegedly played a human urine-based revenge prank on teammate Lou Amundson while playing for the Phoenix Suns.

According to former Suns analyst Amin Elhassan, Amundson had previously filled Shaq's truck with tiny pink styrofoam pieces as a prank. In response, O'Neal reportedly peed on Amundson's shoes and tampered with his mouthguard and haircare gear in a way Elhassan was uncomfortable revealing on air. Elhassan did add that Amundson's reaction to the tampered mouthguard was to take it out and fling it with accuracy at the bench, causing the Suns bench to burst into laughter.

While these reports of Shaq's prank may be humorous to some, there is little doubt that his teammate would have been left disgusted. Elhassan said the following about the incident:

“He goes to Lou’s locker, grabs his sneakers, pees in them. That’s the start, right? He then goes and let’s just say “messes with” some of Lou’s haircare devices, like his brush and his comb and stuff. Messes with them. Let me put it this way: Messes with them in a way that – I was comfortable telling you he peed in the shoes. I’m not comfortable telling you what he did to the hair stuff. And then this part, I will tell you: He tampers with Lou’s mouth guard. He tampers with it.”

He added:

“Lou shows up at like 8 or whenever he usually shows up. And he’s skittish and nervous. And Suns.com is there like, “What do you think Shaq is going to do?” I don’t know.
I think he’s going to do something, though. So, I’ll never forget this. He’s sitting at the locker, and he opens – he starts to reach for the sneakers and then looks at them and says, “Nah, something doesn’t feel right.” Opens the door up, pulls out a fresh pair of sneakers for the last game of the year, right? Again, this is irregular behavior. Usually, you have a couple of sneakers. You break them in for the year, and you switch between two or three or three or four, whatever. So to break out a whole brand new pair … was weird.”

Shaquille O’Neal denies claims that he urinated in his teammate’s shoes

The NBA legend himself has denied these claims. Shaquille O’Neal might have enjoyed his best playing days alongside Kobe Bryant at the LA Lakers. However, he produced some big performances for his other teams as well and has always been a regular prankster.

According to Shaquille O'Neal, he has never used human urine in a prank even during his Phoenix Suns days. The NBA analyst claimed that it was impossible and that players would be left disgusted if he ever used actual urine:

“OK, so there’s three ways to manipulate the mind: what you hear, what you read, and what you see. It may have been perceived that it was U-R-I-N-E, but it wasn’t. It may have been lemonade. Yeah it may have been some lemonade. That cool, refreshing drink. But I never poured, I never I never use the bathroom for a week and then poured it on somebody head. No. Don’t you think that would, Spice, don’t you think that would piss people off?”

Shaquille O'Neal is currently working as an analyst on TNT's "Inside the NBA" and a co-host of "The Big Podcast with Shaq".
