Which Big Ten teams are in NCAA March Madness 2023?

Eight Big Ten teams were selected to participate in the 2023 NCAA March Mardness tournament: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State and Purdue.

The conference fell short of the record for most men's basketball teams from one conference to qualify for a single NCAA Tournament held by the Big East in 2011 with 11 bids. They had nine teams last season, but none of them made it past the Sweet 16.

It has been 23 years since a Big Ten team won the NCAA tournament. That was when the Michigan State Spartans prevailed over the Florida Gators in 2000.

Eight teams from one conference is tied for third-most in NCAA history. It's also just the seventh time in history have eight teams from one conference. The 2023 Big Ten joins 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2013 Big East, 2018 SEC and 2019 Big Ten on the list.

Six teams from the oldest Division I collegiate athletic conference failed to make March Madness this season: Michigan, Ohio State, Rutgers, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. Rutgers and Michigan were surprised snubs, but their poor finishes to the season might have dissuaded the selection committee from picking them.
