Which defensive record did LeBron James surpass in LA Lakers' win over Memphis Grizzlies?

LeBron James made history once again on Friday night when the LA Lakers defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 122-121.

In the midst of their heated battle, "King" James did king things once again, as he became the third player in history to record 2,000 career steals and 1,000 career blocks. LBJ now shares the record with NBA legends Karl Malone and Hakeem Olajuwon.

Honestly, the 2022-23 NBA season has been a historic one for LeBron James. Since turning 38, James has averaged 34.9 points per game, making him the only 38-year-old to average over 30 points per game as of the moment. He's also expected to beat the all-time record of most career points held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Now he's in the record books again, this time for his defense.

Whether you love him or hate him, nobody can deny that LeBron James is a once-in-a-lifetime superstar.

The basketball world is lucky to still witness James play at such an elite level. Most players at LeBron's age either begin to decline or end up retiring from the game. For him to still be going at it on a nightly basis, fans better enjoy it while he's still there.

LeBron James is a polarizing figure in the NBA. People love to hate on James because of how great he truly is. LBJ might've played for three different teams, but he was able to bring each organization a trophy.

Fans argue that LeBron only found success because of his teammates. While he had many great talents surrounding him, James statistically was leading everyone to their victories.

After everything that James has done for his hometown of Ohio, he is undoubtedly the greatest Cleveland Cavaliers player of all time. In South Beach, LeBron is also one of the Miami Heat's greatest players in history.

The same can now be said for him in LA. LBJ might not be at the top of that list, but many legends in the organization consider him to be one of the LA Lakers' greats as well.

Fans need to stop focusing on who's better between LeBron James and Michael Jordan. Instead, people should appreciate the fact that these generational talents have even existed and made basketball fun to watch. James might not win another championship again, but to see his exploits at his age is a privilege.
