Looking at Jonathan Kuminga's high school basketball career
Jonathan Kuminga played basketball for Huntington Prep School in Huntington, West Virginia in his freshman year. He then transferred to Our Savior New American School in Centereach, New York, a year later. Upon his transfer, Kuminga immediately found success in his sophomore year. He averaged 25 points, five rebounds, and five assists per game.
Kuminga won the Slam Dunk to the Beach showcase award for the most valuable player in January 2019 after Gonzaga College High School defeated him despite his event-record 40-point performance. After the season, he played for the NY Rens in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League, averaging 20.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.
Most notably, Kuminga scored 43 points against the Texas Titans, a team that featured top recruits Cade Cunningham and Greg Brown. He shot 7 of 11 from 3-point range.
Kuminga then moved to The Patrick School in Hillside, New Jersey, for his junior year. He made his season debut on December 23, 2019, scoring 20 points in a victory over Roselle Catholic High School. That was after the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association declared him ineligible for 30 days due to transfer regulations.

He reclassified to the 2020 class on July 15, 2020, and made the decision to join the NBA G League Ignite instead of accepting offers from a number of colleges, including Texas Tech, Auburn, Duke, and Kentucky.
He was the top small forward in the 2020 class and a unanimous five-star recruit at the conclusion of his high school career. After being reclassified, he was rated as the third-best player in his class by Rivals.com and the fourth-best by 247Sports and ESPN.
Looking at him today, Jonathan Kuminga isn't performing at the level he's expected to be playing. One of his Golden State Warriors teammates, Draymond Green, even defended him on why Kuminga and the other newbies aren't living up to expectations.
