"Who was that guy, anyway?"- Chris Mullin fires shots at Nikola Jokic's Serbia coach for 'Dream Team' snub
Back in 1992, Chris Mullin was one of the many NBA stars to be chosen for the "Dream Team." After some recent comments regarding that star-studded roster, the Hall of Fame guard set the record straight.
Ahead of this year's Olympics, Serbia's coach Svetislav Pesic stated that this Team USA squad is better than the Dream Team. During an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda's Mark Medina, Mullin responded to this bold statement. He Feels Pesic only said this because he has to play against this team.
"Yeah because he’s got to play against this team! (laughs)," Mullin said. "Who was that guy, anyway? I’ll look him up. It’ll give me something to talk about.”
Later on, Chris Mullin said he plans to find Pesic in Paris to remind him how historic the Dream Team was.
“He needs to wake up, maybe jump in the Serbia sea or something to wake his ass up a little bit. Maybe, I’ll see him. I’ll be in Paris, so I’ll look him up. I’ll give him a little history lesson.”
Aside from being named to the Dream Team, Mullin enjoyed a 16-year career in the NBA. A majority of his career was with the Golden State Warriors, with a small portion being with the Indiana Pacers.
Chris Mullin ended his career as a five-time All-Star and was named to four All-NBA teams. After retiring in 2001, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011.
Chris Mullin gives take on Dream Team vs Team USA debate
Aside from taking shots at Serbia's coach for his comments, Chris Mullin also chimed in on the Team USA debate. He didn't give a direct answer but feels there is an obvious choice between the Dream Team and the 2024 team.
"Oh, I thought you meant if we got together tomorrow (laughs)," Mullin said. "We’ll leave that one alone. It’s quite obvious. But we’ll leave that one out there for the people to talk about. You know the answer to that, anyway. You know, right?"
To this day, the Dream Team is still widely regarded as the greatest basketball team ever assembled. Their roster was filled with Hall of Famers, headlined by Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. They went on to dominate the competition, finishing the Olympics with an average margin of victory of 44 points.
As for this summer's team, it too is loaded with numerous future Hall of Famers. Among the stars leading Team USA in Paris are LeBron James, Steph Curry and Joel Embiid.
Team USA posted an undefeated record during their showcase games and now will look to deliver the United States a gold medal.
