Who is James Harden's mother? Looking at Sixers superstar's personal life & more

Heartbreaking news has come out after it was revealed that James Harden's mother has been dealing with a serious illness. According to Brandon Robinson, the Philadelphia 76ers star might take some time off basketball to aid his mother during a tough time.

Harden's mother is named Monja Willis, and she's been the number one supporter of her son since day one. The soon-to-be 62-year-old mother has always looked out for the Sixers star and has been an instrumental figure in his basketball career.

According to sources, she is from Belflower, California. She has an Instagram account but has opted to keep it private. Even with that, she has gained quite the following, with 3,514 followers as of May 2023.

In 2018, Harden parted ways with his agency and was represented by his mother for quite some time. Although, the NBA star didn't want to acknowledge the fact that his mother was his agent. Now, she is no longer the agent of her son after the 10-time All-Star hired Troy Payne, Mike Silverman and Brandon Grier.

"I wouldn't call her my agent," Harden said. "She's somebody that helps me, obviously. It's work, but I would call it her being my mom like any other mom would. It's life, whether it's personal problems or business problems."

According to sources, Willis worked for AT&T as a service dispatcher before Harden was drafted into the league.

What's the status of James Harden's mother?

According to Robinson, Willis is currently ill, and James Harden is making sure that he tends to his mother's health first. It's understandable that The Beard didn't want to make the news public as he wanted to keep the matter private. Now, it's unsure when he'll be able to return to Philly in time for the season.

"He’s going through it," a source said.
"He loves to compete & he is in the best shape of his life. But he feels a sense of betrayal from Philly."

The 2017-18 MVP didn't release anything regarding what kind of illness his mother is going through.

Harden's trade request to the LA Clippers still hasn't had any developments and his current situation could potentially stall the negotiations.

It could also encourage Daryl Morey and the Sixers to experiment on lineups without Harden. With that, they will have a clearer vision as to how they want to compete without the 2011-12 Sixth Man of the Year.
