Who is Nate Oats? College basketball coach makes headlines with surprising remarks over murder case
Nate Oats has become one of the top head coaches in the country when it comes to college basketball. Oats has had a tremendous amount of success with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
But Oats and the Crimson Tide have found themselves dealing with numerous distractions off the court this season. Former junior guard Darius Miles was charged with capital murder, resulting in him being dismissed from the university.
Today, it was learned that Alabama freshman Brandon Miller was also involved in the incident. According to reports, Miller received texts to bring the gun that was eventually used.
It's an alarming development as Miller has been one of the top players in the country and was trending as a potential top-3 selection in the 2023 NBA draft. Head coach Nate Oats spoke to the media today about the situation, saying that Miller was simply in "the wrong spot at the wrong time."
"We knew about that. Can’t control everything everybody does outside of practice. Nobody knew that was going to happen. ... Brandon hasn’t been in any type of trouble nor is he in any type of trouble in this case. Wrong spot at the wrong time."
Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide look to move forward
It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions for Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide throughout the 2022-23 season. Alabama has been one of the top teams in the country in college basketball. They have an intriguing roster that features plenty of exciting players who should be playing at the NBA level one day.
Brandon Miller has become a star and is on the verge of becoming a top-3 pick in the 2023 NBA draft. Freshman big man Noah Clowney has also impressed and could become another first-round selection from the Crimson Tide. But with everything that Alabama has had going for itself, they’ve also had a cloud over the program.
The cloud is a murder case involving former Crimson Tide player Darius Miles.
Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide will look to put this behind them and move forward in the 2022-23 season. Alabama currently has four more games in the regular season before moving on to conference tournament play. From there, it will be the beginning of March Madness.
