Who owns Milwaukee Bucks? Looking at key stakeholders of the NBA franchise
The Milwaukee Bucks are currently owned by Wesley Robert Edens. Edens has been the owner of the franchise since buying it in April 2014. Along with Marc Lasry, they bought a majority stake from the previous owner, former US Senator Herb Kohl.
Edens and Lasry aren't alone as they also co-own the Bucks with Jamie Dinan and Michael D. Fascitelli.
Lasry is the CEO and co-founder of Avenue Capital Group. Fascitelli is also a businessman, as he is a member of the Vornado Realty Trust board of trustees, also a former CEO of the company. Dinan was the founder of York Capital Management and is a big-time investor.
Earlier today, it was reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic that the Bucks could soon be under new ownership. The owner of the Cleveland Browns, Jimmy Haslem and Haslem Sports Group are in serious talks to buy Edens' stake.
Aside from the Milwaukee Bucks, Edens also owns a soccer club
The Bucks aren't the only team that he owns a huge stake with. In July 2018, he purchased a 55% controlling stake together with Nassef Sawiris, an Egyptian businessman. The stake was reportedly worth up to £30 million.
"I'm a big soccer, football fan. I've been to every World Cup until this most recent one... It's a lot of fun, it's an amazing sport, it's a very fair sport."
"I had looked at a couple things, one in particular, here on the Major League Soccer stuff. Decided not to pursue that. The Premiere League is the biggest league in the world."
"We had looked at a couple of different things in the Premiere League, Aston Villa is a very famous club, they're one of the handful of clubs that won championships in the past."
Back in 1998, Edens co-founded the Fortress Investment Group and has been with the company ever since. He's still active, serving as the chairman of the group.
