Are Riff Raff & Mac McClung really related? Unveiling the truth about NBA dunking star & rapper's relationship

Mac McClung pretty much shut down the 2023 NBA All-Star weekend with his sensational performance in the dunk contest. The guard had everyone in attendance going crazy as he threw down dunk after dunk, seemingly floating through the air as he effortlessly left fans stunned.

After the fact, McClung committed to returning to All-Star weekend this year in Indiana to participate in the dunk contest if fans and the league would have him.

During the 2023 All-Star Game, McClung caused a stir by suggesting that the well-known Hip Hop artist Riff Raff is his cousin. However, in a humorous Fan Duel interview in January 2024, Mac McClung clarified that Riff Raff is, in fact, not his cousin. Despite Riff Raff's previous claims of their familial connection, McClung set the record straight when questioned by Lou Williams, dispelling the internet-fueled misconception. He went on to assert that he had never even crossed paths with him.

Mac McClung's career so far

Although McClung burst onto the scene for many NBA fans last weekend, the fact of the matter is that he's been on his grind for quite some time. In high school, he proved himself as one of the best dunkers in the nation. With a rare ability to practically leap out of the gym despite being a guard, his highlights went viral.

Following a collegiate career that saw him play for three seasons across two colleges, McClung declared for the NBA draft in 2021. Unfortunately, he ended up going undrafted.

After playing for the LA Lakers Summer League team, he was waived early on in the season. That led to McClung's G League career beginning with the South Bay Lakers. Later that season, McClung signed a ten-day contract with the Chicago Bulls before getting assigned to their G League affiliate team.

After returning to the South Bay Lakers in January 2022, he earned G League Rookie of the Year honors. That led to a two-way contract with the Lakers in April, which saw the team decline their option on McClung in the offseason.

Leading up to this season, McClung joined the Golden State Warriors summer league team, which was followed by the team releasing him in October. Just one week later, the Philadelphia 76ers G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, signed him for the 2022-23 season.

In September 2023, McClung inked a deal with the Orlando Magic but was waived just before the regular season commenced. Subsequently, he has joined the Osceola Magic, the G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic.
