Who is Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive? All you need to know

Vivek Ranadive is an Indian-American corporate executive, engineer, author, lecturer, and philanthropist. He is currently the co-owner and chairman of the Sacramento Kings. Before his ties with the Kings, Ranadive made history by becoming the first person of Indian descent to become a co-owner of an NBA franchise with the Golden State Warriors.

During his time in Golden State, Vivek Ranadive suddenly found interest in purchasing the Sacramento Kings. According to sources, Ranadive joined Ronald Burkle and Mark Mastrov on March 21, 2013, in their quest to purchase the team. Unfortunately, if the Indian businessman wanted to proceed with his decision, he must first sell his share of the Golden State Warriors.

The move ultimately cut Vivek's ties with the Warriors and officially bought the team in May 2013. Throughout the years since purchasing 65% of the team, Ranadive has been criticized as the owner of the Kings. Sources reported that people blamed the Indian owner for Sacramento's failures on the court. However, based on the Kings' situation today, the criticism might soon come to an end.

Sacramento Kings potential Playoffs run this season

As of December 24, the Sacramento Kings are currently sitting as the sixth seed in the West. They have a 17-14 record at the moment and still have a chance to climb up the ranks if they win their next two games. With that said, there's a possibility that the Kings could be in the playoffs for the first time this year since the 2005-06 season.

Sacramento's best player at the moment is De'Aaron Fox, who is currently playing in his sixth season in the NBA. Fox was somehow robbed of an opportunity to be named an All-Star for the first time back in the 2020-21 season. He averaged 25.2 points, 7.2 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. Fox's stats were undeniably impressive, but his team's performances were rather the opposite.

However, based on Sacramento's outings as of late, De'Aaron Fox might finally get recognized for his All-Star-level efforts. This season, he's averaging 23.2 points, 5.5 assists, five rebounds, and a steal per game. It appears that the Kings' momentum has been strong this season. Hopefully, they can consistently keep up the hard work they've been putting in up until the post-season.
