Why is Blake Griffin not in NBA 2k25? Reason explored

NBA 2k25 is set to be released this Friday, and basketball fans already know that Blake Griffin is not included in the latest instalment. John Wall, Serge Ibaka and Andre Iguodala are also not included in this edition.

According to Sports Illustrated's Joey Linn, Griffin retired on Apr. 16 after playing 14 seasons in the league. Due to that, NBA 2k loses the rights to include him in their latest release as he is no longer in the league. This also applies to the other players who were included on the list.

In the 2022-23 season, Griffin played in a limited role, coming off the bench for the Boston Celtics. He averaged 4.1 points and 3.8 rebounds. He provided quality backup minutes whenever he stepped on the court and was a steady veteran in the team's locker room.

In April, after announcing his retirement, Blake Griffin said that the Boston Celtics put an offer for him on the table to return for another run with the team. On the "Pardon My Take" podcast, Griffin said:

"I remember the end of December hit, and I called Brad Stevens, and I was like, 'Man, I really appreciate it.' I just wasn't there man. Something changed, and I knew when something changed like that, it was time to be done."

Griffin did not provide full details on his decision to turn down the offer. However, he pointed out that if there was a scenario where he decided to give his NBA career another go, Boston would have been his preferred destination.

The six-time NBA All-Star was best known for his time with the LA Clippers, where he was an electric high-flyer alongside DeAndre Jordan, who established the team's iconic "Lob City" era.
